Tax return submitted! What happens next?

Thank you for choosing us to submit your tax return! Here’s what happens next.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER SUBMISSION: WITHIN APARI SOFTWARE

  • You will receive a “submission success” message within the ApariPro software.

  • The submission summary page will have been updated, and you’ll see a new heading, ‘HMRC Submission Receipt’. This contains your receipt ID.

  • You can also download your submitted tax return from that page or at any time in the future.

  • You’ll immediately see your overall tax liability for the year within ApariPro, as well as a full breakdown of how it was calculated (sometimes referred to as SA302).

AFTER SUBMISSION: HMRC

  • If HMRC holds an email address for you, they will immediately confirm the successful receipt of your online submission.

  • It can take up to 72 hours for the details to show in your HMRC online account.

  • Don’t worry: you already have your submission receipt. If you have any concerns, contact HMRC.

PAYING YOUR TAX BILL

  • The overall tax liability you see in ApariPro may not be the amount you need to pay (or have refunded). For example, you may have made payments on account. Read more about what to pay and when.

  • If you have time before the 31st January deadline, it’s best to wait for your HMRC online account to update, and they will tell you precisely what you need to pay and when.
